In August 2026, SAGENCYWA had the opportunity to guest lecture at Edith Cowan University, sharing practice insights into working with men who use harmful behaviours in their intimate and family relationships.
A key focus of the lecture was pattern-based recognition — looking beyond isolated incidents to understand the recurring behaviours, beliefs and relationship dynamics that may contribute to harm.
When practitioners recognise patterns, interventions can become more targeted. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all response, we can better identify what may be maintaining harmful behaviour and where meaningful intervention is needed.
For SAGENCYWA, this is an important part of behaviour-change work. Accountability remains central, but effective intervention also requires curiosity about the patterns underneath behaviour and the capacity to respond to them appropriately.
It was a privilege to contribute to the learning of ECU’s emerging practitioners and to encourage continued discussion about evidence-informed, targeted approaches to working with men.
